This book is an amalgamation of presentations and discussions from an international symposium hosted by the World Bank in 2005. "Early Childhood Development: From Measurement to Action. A Priority for Growth and Equity" expands on the many issues highlighted at the symposium (e.g., the importance of investing and prioritizing early childhood development [ECD], the urgent need for evidence- and population- based instruments and measures to monitor, evaluate, and compare ECD interventions over time and across settings). This book contains 15 chapters which are grouped into five main sections: (1) Investment in ECD-Benefits for Society and Children, (2) Evaluating ECD Outcomes- Lessons from Longitudinal Studies, (3) Monitoring ECD Interventions- Country Experiences, (4) Financing of ECD Initiatives innovations, and (5) Looking to the Future- The Next 5 Years.
