The ADEA Working Group on ECD (ADEA WGECD: Draft Strategic Plan: 2006 – 2007
The ADEA Working Group on ECD (WGECD) is taking some concrete steps to build on the overall framework of action for ECD in Africa, that resulted from the 3rd Africa Conference on Early Childhood Development that was held from 30 May – 3 June 2005 in Accra, Ghana.
In order to support the processes of focusing on translating this apparent commitment and interest into national action, the WGECD aims to focus attention on enhancing national processes to take off.In its recent planning the WG has identified that its main objective is to function as a catalyst and facilitator to:
So far, the WGECD has been operational under the umbrella of ADEA. Following the Ghana Conference and the recent ADEA Biennale, it was agreed to transform the WGECD into an Africa ECD Network. Whilst these plans are in their early stages, such a network would have links with both ADEA and the CGECCD, as a global coalition, with a Secretariat anchored in an African-based institution. Therefore, what is being proposed is that the period 2006 – 2007 will be a transitional one during which the WGECD will continue to operate under ADEA, but strengthen its networking outside the ‘traditional’ ADEA constituency and seek for an institution in Africa to host its Secretariat in the future.A very important part of the evolution of the ADEA WGECD to the Africa ECD Network will be the strengthening and expansion of its Membership, Steering Committee & Secretariat.
