Quality ECCD

Co-Conveners:  Alan Pence (University of Victoria)  and Carline Arnold (Aga Khan Foundation)

Purpose:  The Quality Working Group  aims to address the CG Key Focus Area identified as ‘Quality ECCD -  Diverse Viewpoints & Their Implications’.  Specifically, the WG aims to focus on strengthening and expanding the diversity of the CG knowledge base re ‘quality’ ECCD and address the implications in relation to key issues such as:

Status:    This is a new Working Group, and Alan  and Caroline have recently agreed  to be its Co-Conveners. Alan and Caroline are working on the first draft of a Terms of Reference to share with the CG and initiate a wider call for members. Initially they have suggested that this WG takes a phased approach:

a)  Phase 1, focusing on:  Strengthening and expanding  the diversity of the CG knowledge base regarding Quality ECCD, through  exploring diverse viewpoints that exist regarding issues of ‘quality’, identifying the underlying paradigms of this diversity, and how and why the distinctions make a difference.

Given that the 2006 Coordinators' Notebook will focus on the theme of ‘Quality’ following the GMR on ECCE launch, the conveners of this WG have agreed to facilitate a plenary session on this broad topic at the forthcoming Annual Consultation. This session will be informed by a commissioned paper and other recent publications, for example Robert Myers’ paper on Quality prepared for the GMR report.  Therefore, they aim to stimulate discussion and debate to inform both:   the 2006 Coordinators' Notebook on Quality,  and the Working Group’s planning at the Annual Consultation – including the identification of  possible sub-groups within the umbrella QWG.

ACTION for CG Partners: Please send in information to the Working Group (copied to Louise/Chanel) on initiatives, activities, research etc related to issues of quality that you know about/are involved in that we can use to include as case studies etc in the upcoming Coordinators' Notebook. Deadline for submission is mid-September although before this deadline is also very helpful.

b)  Phase 2, focusing on:  Addressing the implications of these diverse viewpoints re ‘quality’ in relation to specific issues and sub-groups identified
