The three day joint planning meeting of the Executive Board and the Secretariat, 26th – 28th February 2006 proved to be a very fruitful in terms of being able to address a wide range of issues, including - contracts and agreements; internal regulations and membership status and ’modus operandi’; strategic planning and the drafting of proposed CG key focus areas and related working groups for the  period 2006 – 2010; publications, communication strategies  and web-site development;  possible joint initiatives such as the ’Science of ECD’; mapping forthcoming advocacy opportunities; marketing and promotion of the CG; as well as operational and financial management, and the need for the development of a specific CG fund-raising strategy.

Fine-tuning of the CG Mission & Strategic Objectives

At this meeting, some fine–tuning to the Mission statement formatting and the wording of the CG’s Objectives was completed. The CG’s Mission & Strategic Objectives now read as
Mission:

  • by promoting a wider dialogue among practitioners, policy-makers, researchers, and national and international agencies;
  • through the analysis, synthesis and dissemination of knowledge and through coordinated advocacy.

Objectives:

  1. Contribute to the development of a cutting-edge global knowledge base on ECCD through analysis, synthesis and dissemination which is accessible and used by a wide range of actors and stakeholders
  2. Facilitate a broad-based global understanding of the critical importance of ECCD to social development and poverty reduction and advocate for improved investments, policies and actions to support the holistic development of young children.
  3. Strengthen national and regional capacities to generate and disseminate knowledge, share information and advocate for the support of children’s overall development.
