ECCD in Emergencies Working Group
The purpose of the ECCD in Emergencies Working Group (EEWG) is to analyze and synthesize information gathered from research, case studies, successful practices and tools from the fields of ECCD and Emergencies and to use this information to:
- Develop tools and publications and to disseminate this information for use by global actors and stakeholders in ECCD and Emergencies,
- Advocate for improved investments, policies, and commitment to action related to young children in Emergency and Transition situations,
- Inform the current gap in understanding that ECCD programming in Emergency situations needs to include the diverse needs of children in each phase of the emergency, transition and normalcy,
- Inform capacity development of ECCE and Emergencies’ stakeholders to effectively act for children in these settings.
The CG's EEWG has collaboratively developed a set of draft Recommendations which is linked to a provisional timeline of EEWG activities over the next couple of years. A summary of key outcomes and actions is provided below:

Proposed Activities 2008:
- Recognition of EEWG as an INEE Task Team
- Update and revise the INEE Good Practice Guide on ECD (currently posted on the INEE website)
- Identify complementary materials for INEE’s Minimum Standards
- Collection of tools and initial synthesis of information
- Collection of research and initial synthesis of information
- Ensure that early childhood is included in new and updated versions of key emergency guidelines and manuals
- Sharing of articles with collective research on ECCD in Emergency and Transitional settings
- Development of a position paper
